Mankind was made in the image and likeness of God (per Genesis 1:26-31). This table helps us to understand mankind through the attributes of God. Five states of man are compared:
Newly created man
Natural (fallen) man
Carnal man
Spiritual man
Glorified man
By studying this table, we can understand the plan of God for mankind and the need of man for salvation through Christ. In addition, we can see the value spiritual growth in Christ by comparing the carnal (worldly believer) and the spiritual (mature in Christ) man.
This is useful in encouraging Christians to pursue spiritual growth.
